Description

Pretzel Christmas Crack is a festive, sweet and salty treat featuring a buttery toffee base mixed with crunchy pretzels, topped with melted semi-sweet chocolate and a sprinkle of flakey sea salt. It’s perfect as a holiday snack or gift.

Ingredients

Scale

Toffee Mixture

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Base

  • 2 cups crushed pretzels

Topping

  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Flakey sea salt, for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare pan: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a 10×15×1 inch baking sheet with aluminum foil and spray it with pan spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Make toffee mixture: In a saucepan over medium-high heat, whisk together 1 cup unsalted butter, 1 cup packed dark brown sugar, and ¼ teaspoon salt. Bring the mixture to a boil and let it boil for 4-5 minutes to create a rich toffee base.
  3. Combine pretzels and bake: Stir 2 cups of crushed pretzels into the hot toffee mixture. Pour this mixture evenly onto the prepared baking sheet, spreading the pretzels as evenly as possible. Bake in the oven for 5 minutes.
  4. Add chocolate chips: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and immediately sprinkle 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips evenly over the hot toffee and pretzel layer. Let it sit for about 2 minutes until the chocolate chips melt completely.
  5. Spread chocolate and add sea salt: Use a spatula to spread the melted chocolate evenly over the pretzel and toffee layer. Sprinkle flakey sea salt generously on top.
  6. Cool and serve: Allow the mixture to cool completely at room temperature until set. Once cooled, crack it into pieces and serve or package for gifting.

Notes

  • For best results, use fresh unsalted butter and packed dark brown sugar for a rich toffee flavor.
  • You can substitute semi-sweet chocolate chips with milk or dark chocolate chips according to taste preference.
  • Make sure to let the chocolate chips melt completely before spreading to ensure a smooth chocolate layer.
  • Use flakey sea salt for a nice texture contrast and enhanced flavor, but avoid too much salt to keep balance.
  • Once cooled, store in an airtight container to keep the treat crisp and fresh.
